About Me

Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Simon, an experienced full stack web developer with a natural creativity and relentless passion for problem solving.

I have always had a passion for gaming from a young age and initially decided to follow my interests and pursue a career in games development. I was awarded two games development qualifications at NC and HNC level. After qualifying as a games developer at the NWRC 2010 my interest grew in AI. I was accepted to study Computer Science and AI at the University of Sheffield. This went very well due to my capability in C++ and I achieved high grades and passed my first year. However, Computer Science was not hands on enough for me when it came to code and I found it a bit too theoretical, so around 2011 I decided development wasn’t for me.

After a few years in industry working for various bodies, such as the Home Office, NHS, Royal Mail and a specialist steel mill I decided to give development another try.

My favourite module when I studied AI and Computer Science was based in the web, this module seemed to resonate with me more than the other modules and I decided to undertake a degree in Web Development at Sheffield Hallam University. This suited me a lot better, and I ended up achieving incredible results in my final year as a consequence.

Fast-forward to today, and I’ve had the privilege of working at the largest online printing company in the UK, one of the largest car dealership management software companies in the UK, and helping out businesses such as Becky Lyne’s fitness organisation.

My longest tenured role is working at theworks.co.uk where I have featured in a more senior capacity. I have had to adapt to some challenging conditions in this role, and my adaptability and versatility has been tested. I have gained some true experience at theworks.co.uk in that I have stayed long enough to see the features that I have written go live.

I am constantly adding to my skillset and love to learn.  Here are a few technologies I’ve been working with recently:

  • JavaScript, Angular, React
  • HTML, CSS & SASS/SCSS
  • C#
  • ASP.NET (Framework) & .NET Core
  • SQL Server & SSMS
  • Git, JIRA, Azure DevOps
  • Salesforce SFRA (.ISML, jQuery)
  • Google Analytics 4
